BTB has a strong Board of Trustees with a breadth of experience in all facets of commercial real estate including acquisitions, asset management, development, property management, lease administration and asset level and corporate finance.
Jocelyn Proteau
Chairman of the Board and Trustee
Mr. Proteau has held senior management positions with various financial institutions. From March 1989 to June 2001, he was Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the Fédération des Caisses populaires Desjardins de Montréal et de l’Ouest du Québec, From 1990 to April 2005, he was a member of the board of Desjardins Venture Capital and he also acted as President of its Investment Committee from 1995 to 2005. Mr. Proteau has acquired extensive experience as a director of several companies within the financial, service and retail fields. He has been a member of the board of Richelieu Hardware Ltd. since April 2005 and of 20-20 Technologies Inc. since July 2002. He has been Chairman of the Board of 20-20 Technologies Inc. from November 2004 to January 2007 and is now Vice Chairman of the Board and Senior Director. Mr. Proteau was a member of the Board of Standard Life Assurance Company PLC whose head office is located in Edinburgh in Scotland from August 2003 to May 2009. He was also a director of Standard Life Insurance Company of Canada from August 2003 to May 2009, and Chairman of the latter from January 2005 to May 2009. Mr. Proteau also sits on several other boards, including CO2 Solutions Inc., Familiprix Inc., and École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC Montréal). Mr. Proteau is a member of the Conseil canadien sur la reddition de comptes since June 2008 (CPAB-CCRC). Mr. Proteau studied Commercial Sciences at the École des Hautes Études Commerciales in Montréal. Mr. Proteau is member of the Governance and HR Committee.
Normand Beauchamp
Trustee
Mr. Beauchamp is President and Chief Executive Officer of Capital NDSL Inc., an investment company, since January 2000. He has spent his career in the communications industry, in particular within the Canadian broadcasting segment, including developing and operating radio and television stations and networks. Between April 1985 and February 2000, he was President, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Radiomutuel Inc., a publicly traded media company. He is a recipient of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ highest award, the Gold Ribbon for Broadcast Excellence. Mr. Beauchamp has been involved as chairman or otherwise with numerous fundraisers and sits on various boards of directors. Mr. Beauchamp also sits on the board of directors of Dundee Corporation since 1991, of Astral Media Inc. since February 2000 and of Québec Railway Corporation Inc. since 2001. Mr. Beauchamp is member of BTB’s Investment Committee and BTB’s Governance and HR Committee.
Claude Garcia
Trustee
Mr. Garcia had a long career in the public and private sectors. From June 1993 to December 2004, he acted as President of Canadian Operations for The Standard Life Assurance Company. He currently sits on the board of Cogeco Inc., Cogeco Cable Inc. and Goodfellow Inc. He was Chairman of the Board of the Agence des partenariats public-privé du Québec (PPP Québec), he was also a director of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and chairs its Audit Committee. Mr. Garcia is a director of the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal (IRCM), of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance OmbudService and a director of L’Excellence, compagnie d’assurance-vie. He graduated in Actuarial studies from Université Laval. Mr. Garcia is member of BTB’s Audit Committee and BTB’s Investment Committee.
Jean-Pierre Janson
Trustee
Mr. Janson has been Executive Vice-President of Richardson Partners Financial Limited since January 2005. Over the past 18 years, Mr. Janson has acted as Managing Director of CIBC Wood Gundy Financial Services (Québec) Inc. (Eastern Canada) and held senior management positions with Merrill Lynch Canada Inc. and Midland Walwyn Inc. He is heavily involved in the financial community and has been serving as a trustee of Opensky Capital Managed Protection Income Trust Fund since February 2005, as a director of Tri Origin Exploration Ltd. since May 2004 and as a director of Midland Exploration Inc. since February 2007. Mr. Janson is member of BTB’s Audit Committee and BTB’s Governance and HR Committee.
Luc Lachapelle
Trustee
Mr. Lachapelle possesses more than 26 years of experience in the field of commercial real estate. Since February 2010, Mr. Lachapelle is President and Chief Executive Officer of Corlac Real Estate Inc. Previsouly, he joined Bombardier Inc. in October 1990, where he has been Vice-President, Real Estate Services up to January 29, 2010. Throughout his professional career, he has participated in all aspects of the development and redevelopment of industrial, commercial and residential projects in Canada, the United States and Europe. Before joining Bombardier Inc. Mr. Lachapelle was a partner in the law firm Pépin, Létourneau, where he specialized in the area of construction surety bonds. Mr. Lachapelle was President of the Chamber of Commerce of Saint-Laurent in 1995. Mr. Lachapelle obtained a Master’s Degree in Real Estate in 1990 from New York University and a Bachelor of Civil Law in 1975 from the University of Montréal. He has been a member of the Québec Bar since 1977. Mr. Lachapelle is member of BTB’s Audit Committee and BTB’s Investment Committee.
Richard Lord
Trustee
Since 1988, Mr. Lord has been President and CEO of Richelieu Hardware Ltd., a company listed on TSX since 1993 under the symbol “RCH”. He has also been sitting as a Director on the board of Group Colabor since June 2005, Familiprix Inc. since September 2001, Groupe Deschênes since April 2005 and 20-20 Technologies Inc. since March 1996. In 1988, Mr. Lord was awarded the “Élite” prize from the Order of the Certified Management Accountants of Québec and, in 1999, he received the Entrepreneur of the Year award (wholesale/distribution – Quebec) from the “Grand Prix de l’Entrepreneur du Québec”. In 2004, Mr. Lord was honored a Fellowship Certified Management Accountant (FCMA) degree from the Society of Management Accountants of Canada. Mr. Lord is member of BTB’s Audit Committee and BTB’s Governance and HR Committee.
Fernand Perreault
Trustee
Mr. Perreault has over 30 years of experience in the field of real estate. From 1995 to December 2009, Mr. Perreault held senior managerial positions at the Caisse de depôt et placement du Québec where he supervised real estate investments and coordinated activities of its real estate subsidiaries where he sat as Chairman of each subsidiary’s board of directors. From 1987 to 1995 Mr. Perreault was President and Chief Executive Officer of SITQ’s Real Estate group where he was instrumental in its growth, playing a key role in propelling it to the rank of leader in Quebec. He also spent several years at the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Mr. Perreault studied at the University of Ottawa where he obtained a law degree. Mr. Perreault is an independent Trustee and is member of the Investment Committee.
Peter Polatos
Trustee
Mr. Polatos is, since April 2009, President of AMTB Management Inc. a firm specialized in the acquisition, financing and management of commercial real estate. He was until March 31, 2009 Vice President, Acquisition and Assistant Treasurer of the Trust. He was until September 2005 Associate Vice-President at Colliers International (Québec) Inc. in September 2005 as an. From November 2001 to July 2005, he acted as Vice-President, Business Development for Technoparc Saint-Laurent and from March 1996 to September 2001 he acted as a consultant for the National Bank of Canada. He has extensive experience in real estate including with respect to the reorganization, development, management, acquisition or sale of real estate. Mr. Polatos obtained a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree in March 1997 from Concordia University.
