La Commère

La Commère is a modern general store inspired by the warm, authentic charm of old-fashioned shops. Housed in a historic early 20th-century building in Saguenay and later expanded to Québec and Lévis, it welcomes visitors of all ages into an immersive setting that evokes the early 1900s.

Inside, you’ll find a carefully curated selection of Quebec-made products, kitchenware, beauty items, trendy social media finds, gifts, toys, clothing, and an extensive candy section. Every visit is a unique experience—a nostalgic journey back in time.

Can you describe your business and its mission?

Founded in 2018, La Commère was created from a desire to revive the spirit of the traditional Québec general store—a warm, welcoming place at the heart of village life. The first location opened in a carefully restored 1910 building, designed to recreate the charm and atmosphere of the past.
Its rapid success, fueled by customers seeking authenticity and by strong visibility on social media, led to a second store in Québec City in 2022 and a third in Lévis in November 2025. Throughout this growth, La Commère has stayed true to its purpose: offering an immersive experience that takes visitors back to the time of our grandparents. Our mission is to provide every visitor, no matter their age, with a warm, memorable, and truly unique experience.

What are you most proud of as a company?

We are especially proud of the sense of wonder our customers feel when they step into our stores, as it perfectly reflects the warm and distinctive experience we aim to create.

Does your company have any environmental or social initiatives?

Yes. Many of our products are chosen for their environmentally responsible qualities. Moreover, by drawing inspiration from the general stores of the past, we help preserve and pass on local heritage and traditions, allowing visitors to reconnect with history.
